Type of organisation:
(E.O.I.) Official School of Languages, teaching English, French and German. We offer an official degree on foreign languages but do not teach any other subjects. The Official Schools of Languages in Spain (Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas) are run by the government and all the teachers are civil servants. Our school is run by the Asturias’ Council of Education. We offer five-year courses from Elementary to Proficiency Level. We are not university-level schools but special schools that offer foreign language courses for a very small registration fee, which is paid at the beginning of each school-year.
There are seven EOI in Asturias, our region. Ours is the third largest one, with about 1800 students.
Students:
Our students spend four and a half hours a week in our school for each one of the languages they want to learn. They may study up to three languages. Students come from very different personal and professional
backgrounds: There are High School and University students, free-lance workers, engineers, lawyers, doctors, economists, chemists, teachers, factory workers, housewives, pensioners and unemployed people.
There is no strict division between adolescent and adult learners. Both may share the same classroom but adult students come to school mainly in the morning (9.00 am to 13.00) and from 19.00 to 21.30 hours. Our school gives lessons from 9.00 am to 9.30 pm from Monday to Friday.
